Claire Clancey

PGCHE, PG Cert, BSc (Hons), dip couns, MBACP

I am a qualified integrative humanistic therapist with over 14-years’ experience in the field.  Alongside my private practice I am an academic lecturer, primary tutor and opt (online and phone therapy) lead at the Metanoia Institute in London – where I teach on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Alongside my above roles I am an External Examiner (EE) for Manchester UCEN university (awarding partner, Sheffield Hallam University). Here I undertake a number of tasks including taking samplings of assessed students work, to establish that standards are in accordance with professional standards. I consider myself a supportive and critical friend to counselling programmes I am EE for.

I have a counselling private practice where I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, including Gestalt Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Person-Centred therapy, existential, CBT and psychodynamic models. A core value of my practice is my active curiosity in how our intersections may authentically meet in the therapy room. This supports an inclusive practice which is LGBTQI + and disability affirmative.

I work with individuals and couples, aged 18 and over, in person, online or over the phone. I am a member of, and adhere to, the good practice and ethical framework of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy,  BACP.

I support people facing a variety of challenges, with a particular focus on anxiety, relationship difficulties, and trauma. Awareness lies at the heart of my approach, serving as the foundation from which healing, change, and personal growth can unfold. While I do offer shorter-term support, I tend to lean towards longer-term work to create the space needed for deeper understanding and healing within the self.

As a committed practitioner to my ethical framework and clients I attend regular supervision and ongoing professional training which has included/does include, but is not limited to, the following; PG Cert in Psychotherapy Studies, Suicide and Self Harm, Depression and Anxiety, Emotional Regulation, Stabilisation work in Complex Trauma Counselling, Treating Intrusive Thoughts and the Inner Critical Voice, Working with Dissociation and DID, Working with Dissociative Disorders in Clinical Practice, Trauma and the body work, Working with disassociation, Working with shame, and Working with Trauma in Trauma (Covid-19).
